A 24-year-old mother was arrested on suspicion of fatally strangling her baby daughter after they were both found unconscious at home in the Eastern District of Hong Kong.
Hong Kong police received a report from a 51-year-old woman that the mother and her 19-month-old baby had been found unconscious at a residential building in North Point on April 23.
Officers found the mother and the baby with neck injuries. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother, surnamed Liu, was sent to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan in a conscious state.
The investigators have classified the case as a homicide, and a postmortem will be conducted to confirm whether the baby was strangled to death.
Liu has been detained for questioning after police also found suicide notes and plastic cable ties in her home.
