Manchester United are still scrambling to get transfers over the line before the window slams shut on September 1.
Manager Erik ten Hag – fresh from a morale-boosting first win of his reign against Liverpool – wants more signings to improve his first team squad.
Dismal back-to-back defeats for United were followed by a 2-1 win over their fierce rivals on Monday, with glimmers of what could be to come.
Ten Hag had to make tough decisions that included dropping Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo, but it worked.
United have got some of the boss’ targets already in centre-back Lisandro Martinez from his old club Ajax.
Christian Eriksen signed on a free transfer and this week Casemiro was unveiled after joining from Real Madrid.
Tyrell Malacia also looks like a solid signing after performing well against Mohamed Salah and Liverpool.
If Ten Hag does manage to land some of his remaining targets, then his spending is likely to climb over £200m.
Here talkSPORT.com looks at some of the transfers that United could still get over the line before Thursday.
Antony
The Ajax winger has been a top target of Ten Hag all summer and their pursuit could go right down to the wire.
The Red Devils will likely be forced to pay over the odds for the 22-year-old if they want to land him, given time is running out to get it done.
The Sun report that United are on the brink of signing the winger after agreeing an £84m fee with Ajax.
This will include a £74m initial fee with a further £10m in add ons. It would be the club’s second most expensive transfer in history, after Paul Pogba.
He is believed to have already agreed personal terms with United.
Martin Dubravka
TheRed Devils
are keen to bring in another goalkeeper to provide back-up for no.1 David de Gea.
Talks are ongoing with Newcastle over a possible loan move for Dubravka.
talkSPORT’s Alex Crook reports: “United are in talks with Newcastle over a move for Martin Dubravka. They are looking for competition for David de Gea.”
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp had been a target, but he has come out and said that he rejected the chance to move to Old Trafford.
Frenkie de Jong
The chances may be very low, but there could still be some movement in the push to sign the Barcelona midfielder.
United have wasted weeks chasing De Jong and Casemiro’s signing means their need for a new midfielder is diminished, but not completely gone.
The crux of the issue remains the money owed to the player by Barcelona, in deferred wages, and his reluctance to join United.
The Manchester Evening News report that it is unlikely, but not impossible for things to change.
Cody Gakpo
Gakpo is seen as an alternative to Antony and could be the more doable transfer, with PSV Eindhoven resigned to losing the winger.
De Telegraafreports the defeat to Rangers in the Champions League qualifying could be Gakpo’s last appearance in a PSV shirt after the Eredivisie club accepted his departure ‘cannot be prevented’, while United have ‘serious plans’ for him.
Memphis Depay
Depay heading back to Old Trafford? That’s what the Spanish press are reporting could happen.
Barcelona are keen to offload him, but a move to Juventus has broken down.
According to Marca, United are now considering a shock move for their former forward with a cut-price deal potentially on the cards.
United paid £31m for him in 2015 and he spent just one full season at Old Trafford.
Getting rid of Depay would certainly help Barca register new signing Jules Kounde.
